We plan each litter carefully. We have a limited number of litters per year and can only guarantee puppies to clients with deposits or currently on waiting list.
Our puppies are bred for conformation, size and color. We take notice of the issues surrounding breeding , and want to be sure your puppy will never end up in a shelter, we do this by giving you what frustrates new puppy owners most, TRAINING.
Our puppies are raised in the house with human
interaction. The advantage of working at home raising Toy Rat Terriers is that I
am there to mold their minds in these critical first 8 weeks of life. This is my
"day job" - (24/7 acutally). You can never make up for lack of socialization at
this stage, so I take my work very seriously!
We take each puppy out individually and begin train them from day one. When they go to their new homes, 5280 Toy Rat Terriers puppies have already learned commands such as sit , automatic walk sit, and much more, we will provide each new home with a DVD of how to acheive the commands and follow through with the leash training, tips on potty training and more. At 5280 Toy Rat Terriers our puppies are Leash Trained, play ball, AND puppy play. Some learn fetch before the leave also! We will also work on sounds , desentisthsing your puppy to loud, and obtrusive sounds , as well as every day sounds and activities. The new puppies are constantly playing with small children and are already gaining the social skills needed to be a well rounded and intregal part of your family.
We crate train our
puppies starting at 5-6 weeks old. We do this by first leaving an open crate in
the puppy play area.
They naturally go in it when they are sleepy. We then
close the door for 30 minutes, or until they wake up and need to go
potty.
Right outside the door to the crate, we put a "litter box" (a large
wooden frame with shredded paper). The puppies learn to use it!
They potty as
soon as they get out of the crate, and I gradually move the box to a corner of
the pen. This keeps the play pen very sanitary. And will be the foundation for your new puppy and you.
We are able to do this limiting our litters and giving our pets and puppies the attention they deserve. We want you to be as happy with your little ones as we are with ours.
We will be here to assist you with any questions you may have.
We guarantee our puppies to be happy and healthy and offer a 1 year health gurantee.
We assist in all of our births. Our parents are indoor pets, puppies are born in home and cared for 24 hrs. Puppies are well socialized and handled from birth.
tails are docked at 3 days old unless born natural docked. . We offer a health guarantee and sales contract with each puppy. We encourage you have your new puppy vet checked.
We give the puppies their first vaccinations at 4 weeks old. The first
shot is Parvo only. Neo-Par.
(Neo Par is the safest and most
effective parvo vaccine for puppies. It is a modified live vaccine containing a
high antigenic mass of a highly immunogenic strain of canine parvo. Neo Par
overrides moderate to high antibody levels such as maternal antibodies or from
pre-existing vaccination. High levels of IgM and IgG antibodies are generated in
puppies. Safe in puppies 3 weeks of age or older.)
At 6 & 8 weeks
we give Duramune Max 5 - CVK (Protects against canine distemper, canine
hepatitis, respiratory disease caused by adenovirus type 2, canine corona virus,
canine parainfluenza and canine parvovirus.) The puppies go to
their new homes at 9 weeks old with a health/shot record.
Follow up shots
need to be given at 10 weeks, 13 weeks and 16 weeks old. Please write it on your
calendar! It's critical to either get the proper shots or have your vet do an
immunity titer to determine your puppie's immunity status. The vet will also
worm the puppy and it is common for the puppy to pass dead worms. Rabies should
be given between 4-6 months old.
In addition to providing the
best possible environment and stimulus for the puppies first 8-9 weeks, we
continue to be available for any questions the new owner might have regarding
training the puppy and/or problems that might arise. (Please call for help as it
is an easier way to communicate!) This is just as important to us as breeding
and raising our puppies.

Letters of Bliss from new owners
Hey Jennifer,Thanks so much,
CynthiaThank you so much for the time and care you and your family put into breeding these dogs. Not only did you do the bare minimum, but it seems you went above and beyond what most breeders would be required to do in terms of training, health, cleanliness, and more. Hercules has an excellent temperament and he is great around my 8 year old child and other pets.
I am really happy with the services you provided. Having a dog mostly crate and litter box trained made it very easy for everyone to adapt. He also adapted to leash training very quickly. We thank you for allowing us to visit with Hercules on occasion, and for being extremely patient when we were not sure which dog to choose. We know we chose the right pet, and I believe you helped us with that decision. We also appreciate you assisting with questions and offering lower priced shots in the present and future. Thanks for everything, and I would highly recommend you as a toy rat terrier breeder.
